The Kids Programme includes 17 comprehensive lessons involving a variety of apparatus

The Kidi-Sportz principle is one of encouragement, and positive re-enforcement. We do not let any child sit out of any of the exercises, giving them as much assistance as needed to complete the exercise.
The Kids programme is run once a week for 45 minutes, and the structure is the same as the Tots programme (Warm up, small apparatus, gymnastics, strength & fun conclusion).

Here are a few guidelines to help you understand the importance of the development of these crucial skills.

Low Muscle Tone
What is it?
Muscle tone refers to the tension present in the body.  This enables the child to assume different postures. It is important for a child to have sufficient muscle tone as this ensures his movements are accurate and is necessary for every action the body makes.

What can happen?
We know that children with low muscle tone will have poor motor skills in general, can become hyperactive, will get tired easily and will avoid doing activities as a result. They also complain of frequent headaches

Dominance
What is it?
Determine whether the Left or Right is your dominant side

What can happen?
We know that lack of dominant sides of the body lead to poor gross and fine motor skills, inconsistent and untidy writing patterns, lack of crossing the midline, and could affect writing and reading activities.

Gravitational Insecurity (Balance)
What is it?
Due to a lack of exposure to risky activities, more and more children experience anxiety when they are not in contact with the floor. This results in them avoiding; moving objects, climbing, rolling activities, and walking on raised surfaces

What can happen?
Children become clumsy, and dislike activities involving any of the above motions. This will result in them not taking part in a lot of normal children’s activities, in pre-school and going into primary school. As a result it will affect their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Crossing the midline
What is it?
This refers to the ability of the one side of the body to cross over to the other side of the body.  This would have to be done by moving across the midline of the body.  The midline refers to the imaginary line that divides the body into two halves, the right and left half.

What can happen?
This can have severe effects with reading and writing activities, as well as affecting gross and fine motor skills.

Eye movements
What is it?
Fluid eye movements are essential to every child.  This ensures that a child is able to concentrate and is important when children are doing ball skills.

What can happen?
Fluent eye movements are important for a child to have fine or gross motor co-ordination, i.e. writing, manipulating small objects or catching a ball

Sensory complications
What is it?
When children do not want to touch surfaces with any part of the body e.g. not walking barefoot. We find that more and more children experience tactile defensive symptoms in varying degrees

What can happen?
This results in children not liking being touched, and end up causing conflict as a result. They also tend to isolate themselves, which again leads to low self-esteem, and inability to participate in activities.

Bilateral integration
What is it?
This refers to the communication between the two halves of the brain, which enable the two sides of the body to move together in co-ordination with one another.  Developing eye, hand and feet dominance.

What can happen?
Children can struggle with their handwriting, writing from dictation, the carrying out of daily activities of living.  Children also develop learning and attention problems.
